This option allows you to process data across all cubes in your database that contain the dimension elements you select – in one single Task. For example, you could choose the Version dimension and then source from the element “Budget”. Data within each cube that contains the Version dimension will process from Budget to the target version you select.
Selecting the Source
After you select Multiple Cubes, and below the Dimension listing, DataMaestro displays the total number of cubes that will be affected by the dimensions you've selected. As you select more dimensions, you are filtering down the cubes that will process in the Task. You can further filter out cubes manually by deselecting them from the Cube list.
Steps to define your multi-cube source data are as follows:
Click Add Dimension.
Choose the first Dimension you want to filter on. In the above example, we chose Version. If you do nothing, all data from all cubes will process to themselves, which really isn’t the point.
Note: If you want to hide or view }Control Dimensions in the list, check the View Control Objects checkbox on the upper right corner of the screen.
Click the Element box below your chosen Dimension to launch the Select Element window. From that window you can select the source element by element name or by one of its Aliases. To find the element you are looking for, either use the drill-down element selector or type a series of characters in the Search bar. Note: Element search is case sensitive.
Continue the same steps with all of the dimensions that you want to filter on.
Click the Cube box to see the total number of cubes available as a result of your Dimension filtering, as well as the number you have selected. You can manually deselect/select cubes at this time.
Selecting the Target
For each source dimension you filtered on, you will have the option to choose where to send the data in the target location.
If you chose a base-level (N) element as the source, then you will only be able to send data to the same element or to another base-level element of your choosing. Click the dimension edit box to choose your element.
If you chose a consolidated (C) element as the source, then one of the following options will apply:
Choose the same consolidated element as the target to process to all base-level descendants of the element. For example, you might want to perform a copy of your Budget data to Q1 Forecast, but only for all cities in the region Europe.
Choose a base-level element as your target. Data for the consolidated source element will process to the base-level element you choose.
Repeat the above step for each source dimension you filtered on.
Choose your Insertion Method on the Target side. That determines how values will be processed into the target data cells.
The default method is Replace Target Value, which means the value currently in the target cell will be replaced with the new source value.
Alternatively, you can choose Add to Target Value, which will add the source value to the current value in the target cell and place the result in the target cell.
Note: Data will not process into Target elements that are governed by a Rule calculation. This is determined during processing, not in advance. Some elements may be both enterable and governed by a Rule. For example, there might be a “Sales = Price * Units” Rule on the Sales element only for the Budget version but not for Actuals.
